Welcome to Sign With Sarah
Sign With Sarah offers Auslan (Australian Sign Language) classes from beginner to advanced. Whether you have had absolutely zero exposure to sign language and the Deaf community or culture, are conversationally fluent but would like to improve specific skills (whether it be storytelling/role shifting, grammar, extending vocabulary etc), or fall somewhere in between, there are classes suitable for you.Â
All classes are online, interactive, and designed for maximum participation and engagement. Unlike other online courses where you watch a video and are then required to practice independently, all Sign With Sarah classes are taught live and capped at 10 students to ensure plenty of opportunity for interaction, feedback, encouragement and correction of articulation of signs. However, if you are unable to attend a class, it will be recorded and emailed out to you the following day so you have a chance to catch up prior to the next class.
TERM 4 ENROLMENTS POSTPONED DUE TO FAMILY CIRCUMSTANCES
An opportunity to practice conversational skills, consolidate learning, extend skills, and garner feedback. Open to students of all levels as well as the greater community.
A Little About Me
Hi, I’m Sarah and I’ll be your Auslan teacher. I have been signing since I was 2 years old and wear hearing aids, but have also developed clear speech although rely heavily on lipreading. I live in both the Deaf and hearing worlds, being bilingual and bicultural. 14 years ago, I decided I wanted to learn more about my beautiful language, it’s etymology, syntax, history, etc, so I enrolled full time studying the linguistics of signed languages and Auslan.
I also studied education and social work at SCU (Sunshine Coast University) with the support of amazing interpreters. I love languages and am passionate about teaching Auslan and Deaf culture, and supporting students to learn in engaging, fun, and creative ways.
I have been teaching and tutoring in varying capacities for 17 years and for the past few years have been teaching Auslan at ACU (Australian Catholic University) and for Language Tree, as well as providing private classes.
I have 2 beautiful children; love crafting, escape rooms, and playing board games; love netball and used to play for DNQ (Deaf Netball Queensland); and am heavily involved in my local church where we have a thriving Deaf ministry.
